As I sat last week and relaxed in preparation for the Rock ‘n Roll ½ Marathon, I thought about the last two years never running the ½ marathon, only the full. I never felt good enough or trained enough to take part in the ½ marathon, but I always had the desire to participate and dreamed of winning it. This year is no different, but I decided I am just going to go for it. There will always be something or someone that will try to distract me but I have learned to see the end at the beginning. As I reflect back on my last couple of weeks of training I think of all the challenges in my mind. When I hear the song by R Kelly “I Believe I Can Fly” I believe I am victorious, no hurt, pain, or challenges will phase me. I believe I am swift like a lion and preserved to run the full marathon with joy.
See you at the finish line.
Here are some of the lyrics that I will be meditating on during the race:
I used to think that I could not go on
And life was nothing but an awful song
But now I know the meaning of true love
I’m leaning on the everlasting arms
If I can see it, then I can do it
If I just believe it, there’s nothing to it
I believe I can fly
I believe I can touch the sky
I think about it every night and day
Spread my wings and fly away
I believe I can soar
I see me running through that open door
I believe I can fly………..
Yolanda Adams sings this song beautifully with a children’s choir. Hear it on YouTube
